Layton saves Tories
The Conservative government withstood a no-confidence motion introduced by the Liberals by a vote of 144-117. Jack Layton's NDP abstained from the vote and thus prevented an election. Jack Layton has said he is propping up the Conservative government to ensure speedy legislation regarding employment insurance benefits.
