In response to a possible non-confidence vote this fall, it appears that the Conservative governmetn will introduce Employment Insurance reforms. According to the CBC, the reform will target recently "laid off-workers who have worked for years" and "extend maternity and parental benefits to the self-employed". These possible amendments to EI come as no surprise as Prime Minister Stephen Harper looks to receive support from the NDP should a non-confidence vote be called by the official opposition. The expected cost for extending EI benefits to the self-employed is approximately $147 million.
