NDP joins Bloc in propping up Tories

On Sept. 16, the NDP announced that they will join the Bloc in supporting Friday's budget bill. This action seals the fact that the Conservative government will not be brought down by a vote of no confidence. NDP MP Thomas Mulcair said after the announcement that the bill is important to ensure the renovation tax credit is put into place. The Bloc, in a statement earlier this week said they will also support the budget motion because it contained the popular renovation tax credit, also stated above as the NDP's reason for their support. Harper after the NDP announcement was quoted, "It does seem that, even though all the opposition parties want to oppose us, that they do keep flipping the baton" and "that as long as we're doing good things, at least one of (the opposition parties) will support us because none of them want to be blamed for an election that the public doesn't want."  Recent polls indicate that 6 in 10 out of 1002 are against any move by the opposition to topple the Harper Government. Regardless, critics say the NDP's recent move is to starve off another election even if it means breathing life into a right-wing government.
