American style prisons for Canada?

The Conservative government is planning to bring in an "American style" prison, which will cost billions in taxpayer money and an uproar in questionning it's effectiveness. The goal of this is to return convicts back into society with more understanding and desire to be a law-abiding citizen. These "super prisons" are said to deny many of the Constitution's fundamental rights. Conservative goverment hopes that the implementation of such institutions will provide for better rehabilitation and more desire to participate in programs designed for those who have committed crimes and have mental illnesses.
